The Pregnancy Discrimination Act amended Title VII of the Civil Rights Act to prohibit discrimination for all employment related purposes on the basis of pregnancy, childbirth or related medical conditions. Title VII applies to employers in industries that affect commerce with 15 or more employees during at least 20 weeks in the current or prior year. |

Under the provisions of Title VII, health and disability insurance and sick-leave plans must cover disabilities that are caused by or contributed to by pregnancy, childbirth, or related medical conditions in the same manner as disabilities caused or contributed to by other medical conditions.
